What does a multi-platinum pop star get up to during his hiatus between albums?

Turns out George Ezra disappeared to a pig farm with no electricity in Norfolk.

Following his debut becoming one of the top-selling albums of 2014, George, 24, took some time off and escaped to the wilderness.

“I got it in my head that I needed to experience what it was like to live without any electricity,” he explains.

“People told me I didn’t need to do that, but that made me want to do it more. So I found myself a little cabin.

“It was posh – it had a roll-top bath – but you had to light a little fire to fill it.

“The shower was on the outside so I was naked every morning in this pig field.”

Completely isolated (besides his hog pals), he adds: “The first night was completely terrifying. There were no lights, so once the sun went down I relied on torches. The sky would stay this beautiful blue. It was amazing.

“I had no phone signal. I took a guitar and some books and stayed for two weeks. I had an icebox with my vegetables which I cooked on a little gas stove.”

The singer – whose new track, Paradise, is written about falling in love during his time off – has named his new album Staying At Tamara’s.

This is because during another jaunt he stayed in an Airbnb in Barcelona with a woman named, wait for it... Tamara.

The singer explains he set off on these expeditions after finishing his last tour, and then getting bored waiting for friends to finish work to join him in the pub.

“Life was suddenly void of excitement,” he says.

“On tour, you experience ridiculous highs and lows. Once a night, you have the privilege of performing which is hard to put into words, then you get home. My friends work Monday to Friday so they have more structure.

“I would have long stints of me twiddling my thumbs just waiting for friends to clock off so we could meet.”

He’s back touring the UK from March so no more thumb twiddling for you, Mr Ezra.
