To do my job the best I can, I keep my boots on the ground as much as possible. I’m constantly visiting with emergency services, teachers and school administrators, business owners and employees, farmers and tribes and just about anyone else in-between Eureka and West Yellowstone.
Heck – a few months ago I even went to a Montana shrimp farm, something I didn’t think I’d ever see. In all those visits, two things have been made crystal clear: The top areas of concern with Montanans are Biden’s open border and his disaster of an economy.
I’m asked in almost every conversation, “What can be done to fix it?” and the most frustrating part is telling folks that we’ve already done the work, Democrats just won’t acknowledge it.
Our world would look vastly different if the White House and the Senate picked up three bills:

- H.R. 2 — The Secure the Border Act: I meet with county commissioners, sheriffs, and Tribal leadership daily. I hear over and over how the border crisis is spilling into our communities, stressing our public resources and filling our jails. One of my early votes in 2023 was for the Secure the Border Act. It ends catch and release, supports ICE to do their jobs, resumes construction of the wall, holds Mexico accountable and reinstates the successful Remain in Mexico policy. Despite the president having the constitutional authority to shut down the border on his own, H.R. 2 offers a clean cut alternative to getting our country back in order.
- H.R. 7024 — The Tax Relief for American Families and Workers Act: This bipartisan $600 billion tax cuts package is equipped to help small businesses hit by decades-high interest rates, encourage lower income families to get back in the workforce, and provide relief to folks just trying to buy gas, groceries, and rent. This alone is estimated to create 867,000 new jobs and $58 billion in additional take-home pay for American workers. This tax-cut package is a win-win for small businesses who need the worker, and the worker who needs the cash to keep themselves afloat.
- H.R. 1 — The Lower Energy Costs Act: Three years ago, America wasn’t just energy independent - America was energy dominant. We gave Biden a blueprint for a clean, safe, efficient, and inexpensive energy policy and economy that benefited from it. He threw it in the garbage and Montanans have paid for it though high electricity bills and price gouges at the fuel pump since. In fact, the average Montana family has paid $26,000 more since Biden took office. H.R. 1 puts logic back into energy policy by focusing on spurring responsible development of domestic energy and mineral resources, eliminating burdensome permitting requirements, creating jobs, and securing our supply chains and energy infrastructure.
Illegal immigration and record inflation are real problems affecting real people. Democrats politicizing these issues when they’ve been given legislation to relieve the burden off Montanans is D.C. at its worst. The House has done its job, now it’s time for the Senate and White House to do theirs.
