Plug Power CEO to Present Hydrogen Advancements at First-Ever Hydrogen Council Investor Day

Event to occur as an affiliated event of NYC Climate Week

LATHAM, N.Y., Sept. 18, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Plug Power Inc. (NASDAQ:PLUG), a leader in providing energy solutions that change the way the world moves, will participate in the panel discussion titled “Key Investment Opportunities in Hydrogen Development” during the Hydrogen Council’s Investor Day. The event is being held in New York City today during Climate Week NYC. The event’s objective is to discuss the important contributions of hydrogen to the energy transition and effective implementation plans to further realize the compelling benefits of hydrogen deployment.

This follows Plug Power’s recent nomination to the  Council as a supporting member. The Hydrogen Council, which includes the participation of business leaders from some of the world’s leading auto and hydrogen manufacturers, is focused on shaping the role of hydrogen in the energy mix of the future. With climate change and the challenges of developing a sustainable future top-of-mind for energy providers, manufacturers and business communties, the investor day is an opportunity for Plug Power and other members of the Council to discuss and develop an actionable plan that focuses on how the hydrogen industry can best finance and deploy sustainable energy and hydrogen-powered mobility solutions at scale in the years ahead.

“There’s a global trend towards electrification in all aspects of our daily lives,” said CEO Andy Marsh. “This irreversible trend is rapidly changing the vehicle landscape with the growth of electric drivetrains for mobility. This growth in electric vehicles  will have an incredible, positive impact on global society as a whole, and  the hydrogen industry is going to have a major role to play in powering this electrified future.”

Currently, Plug Power has deployed over 16,000 fuel cell powered electric lift trucks and built more than 52 hydrogen stations in North America, Europe and Asia. These hydrogen stations have supported more than 8 million fuelings, consisting of 4.9 million kilograms of hydrogen dispensed to date. The majority of the company’s hydrogen fueling stations are deployed within the material handling industry- facilitating increased productivity, reduced operational costs, and lower greenhouse gas emissions for customers such as Walmart, Amazon, Carrefour, and Home Depot.

Plug Power fuel cell solutions are driving into new electric vehicle markets, including ground support equipment and electric delivery vans. As the global leader in the development and deployment of hydrogen fuel cell technology and hydrogen fueling stations, the expansion to mobility applications beyond the warehouse is a major part of the company’s growth strategy.

“I was honored to be invited to the Hydrogen Council’s launch at Davos in 2017 to speak to the Council members about how Plug Power has proven a model for viable hydrogen use, and how we can, as an industry, effectively scale and deploy sustainable hydrogen solutions across the globe in the years to come,” Marsh continued. “Now, with Plug Power as a new Council supporting member, I can’t wait to get to work with my fellow industry colleagues and the investment community to figure out how we can best execute and finance our vision in sculpting the global energy economy.”

The invite-only Hydrogen Council Investor Day is taking place at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Times Square. For more information on the event, as well as The Climate Group-organized Climate Week NYC, you can visit the event page here: http://www.climateweeknyc.org/event/hydrogen-council-investor-day.

About the Hydrogen Council:

In the first global initiative of its kind, the Hydrogen Council is determined to position hydrogen among the key solutions of the energy transition. Hydrogen is a versatile energy carrier with favourable characteristics since it does not release any CO2 at the point of use as a clean fuel or energy source, and can play an important role in the transition to a clean, low-carbon, energy system. Hydrogen technologies and products have significantly progressed over past years and are now being introduced to the market. The Council will work with, and provide recommendations to, a number of key stakeholders such as policy makers, business and hydrogen players, international agencies and civil society to achieve these goals.

The Hydrogen Council’s member companies – who collectively represent total revenues of over €1.3 trillion and more than 2.06 million employees around the world1 - include: Air Liquide, Alstom, Anglo American, Audi, BMW GROUP, Daimler, ENGIE, Faber Industries, Faurecia, First Element Fual (True Zero), Gore, Honda, Hyundai Motor, Iwatani, Kawasaki, Mitsui & Co, Plastic Omnium, Plug Power, Royal Dutch Shell, Statoil, The Linde Group, Total, Toyota and Toyota Tsusho.
