The lady said she spent over KSh 2,000 to buy electricity tokens, which do not last for a month.

Why you should minimise your usage of electronics

Jeremy advised that, with the rising electricity bills, if one is not careful with energy consumption, the cost of buying energy will compete with rent.

"As an intelligent person, weigh your options well before getting electronics. Check your salary and your monthly entire earnings before you could buy electronics," he advised.

For instance, he said, air conditioners consume a lot of energy, accounting for about 50% of a person's electricity cost.

He recommended being selective with the electronics you buy and only using the necessary ones.

Turn off appliances when not in use

Jeremy recommended turning off all electric appliances, like bulbs and sockets, after using them.

"If you're buoyant enough, then please go ahead. But if not, turn off those lights. Use them only at night, and you will definitely see a change in your electricity consumption."

He suggested the use of LED energy rechargeable bulbs to minimise power consumption.

"Once your light bulb is charged, turn off the powerbox and only switch it on when you want to use the fridge, charge phones or watch television," he recommended.
